It’s true what they say – The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year! My husband and I travel each year over the Christmas holiday, so I have a long list of places that are extra cozy for Christmas. Below I’ve listed 10 cities that will definitely get you into the holiday spirit! đ
Zurich, SwitzerlandÂ
All of Switzerland is magical in my opinion, but Zurich is extra magical for Christmas. The entire city is bathed in a display of 12,000 crystal lights, and there are a plethora of Christmas markets, concerts, and amazing holiday-themed events to see. Be sure to check out the Christmas market at WerdmĂŒhleplatz, which includes the famous vertical podium in the shape of an enormous Christmas tree, complete with choirs singing Christmas carols.Â
Quebec City, Quebec
It’s no surprise that CNN ranked QuĂ©bec City among the worldâs top 10 destinations for celebrating the Holidays. At the end of November, the entire city is transformed into a winter wonderland. Complete with authentic European Christmas markets, Christmas choirs, and amazing shopping, this is the perfect holiday destination. What makes it extra special is the transformation into a true winter village, when the area from Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Church in Place Royale to the end of Rue du Petit-Champlain is decked out in cozy holiday dĂ©cor.Â
Munich, GermanyÂ
Germany is known worldwide for it’s holiday spirit! Munich offers so many things to see and do during the holidays, including the popular Munich Christmas Market, which has roots dating back to the 14th century. Held on the Marienplatz in the heart of the city centre, it is truly a must see!
London, England
Some of my favorite childhood memories include my time spent living in London during the holidays. There are so many things to see and do, from Christmas markets to ice skating near the eye, it really is a magical place during the holidays. Definitely check out the ice skating rink at The National History Museum. With it’s iconic backdrop, it’s truly a must visit!
New York, United States
New York is known worldwide for its expansive holiday activities and dĂ©cor. Complete with the famous Rockefeller Christmas tree, which is illuminated in over 45,000 LED lights, New York is the perfect holiday destination. Get in the holiday spirit with some hot cocoa and ice skating at the Rink at Rockefeller Center, then spend some time walking around Times Square and admiring the elaborate holiday dĂ©cor. Don’t forget to visit some of the famous department stores, which have beautiful displays and elaborate Christmas dĂ©cor throughout. New York will definitely leave you feeling jolly for the holidays!
